<p>The world is increasingly uncertain, which significantly influences individuals’ career choices. The theory of planned happenstance offers valuable insights into how people can make use of unplanned events in their career development. However, few studies have examined or validated this theory among Chinese students studying in South Korea. This study confirmed the factor structure of the Planned Happenstance Career Inventory (PHCI) among 191 Chinese overseas students in South Korea. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and difference analyses were conducted. The results are as follows. Firstly, the five-factor model best represented the sample. Secondly, all PHCI subscales showed significant positive correlations with career adaptability and career engagement. Only curiosity and flexibility had a weak positive relationship with career stress. Thirdly, when looking for gender or degree level differences, only flexibility differed in degree level. Implications and limitations for utilizing PHCI scales for Chinese overseas students in South Korea are discussed.</p>
