It is never too late: understanding career shocks–career development nexus from affective events theory
摘要
Considerable studies have investigated the antecedents and outcomes of career development; however, few studies have explored the role of career shocks in shaping individual career development. Further, we explore the underlying mediation process of emotional exhaustion in the linkage between career shocks and career development and how career self-efficacy moderates these associations using affective events theory. A total of 243 banking professionals were recruited using a survey approach, and the hypotheses were tested. The moderated mediated model reveals that career shocks directly and indirectly (via emotional exhaustion) relate to career development, and career self-efficacy moderates these associations.
