<p>Out of the three basic needs of the human beings, the home is the place that provides us with shelter. Unlike olden days’ modern homes provides not only shelter but all the comforts that makes life easy. For any house the most basic amenities required are electricity, lighting system, water supply, sewerage system, etc. These amenities are drawn basically from the public connections. What if these connections are not available like most remote areas in hilly, desert or forest regions? Is the house will be as comfortable as the house in any habitable areas? The answer is “yes”….and solution to it is earthship homes. As the name suggest the concept of earthship homes is to build homes based on the idea of space ship, which will be self-sufficient to provide its occupants with shelter at the same time all the other amenities required for comfortable living such as water, power. Earthships are a type of sustainable home, constructed with building materials, and designed to be self-sustainable for those who live in them. The paper begins by describing the aspects of earthship design which contribute to sustainability, including the construction of the thermal envelope and its effect on the thermal comfort of the occupants; the building’s ability to harness renewable energy; and the water and water reuse system. The study shows that earthship are a financially feasible design alternative for semi arid climates. </p>
