Performance improvement in electric discharge machining of hardox steel though modified circuits
摘要
Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) is working on the principle of erosion of metal by an electric spark. The researchers are facing some difficulties on design of power supply and configuration needs to attain the desired spark level in EDM process. In this paper, the problem in the circuit design is solved by an addressing the modified pulse generator circuit. This paper is to present the EDM results with and without modified circuit in the machining of hardox 500 steel. Rate of metal removal is evaluated based on the pulse duration, current and standoff distance (SoD). The cause of input constrains on rate of metal is found by Taguchi technique. The most favorable response was accomplished at current of 40 A, pulse duration of 180µs and SOD of 1 mm.
