Optimization of dual pulse resistance welding parameters for ASTM A240 stainless steel sheets: a multi-objective approach

An attempt is made to optimize the control parameters of the dual pulse resistance welding of ASTM A240 stainless steel sheets using a Taguchi approach. The weld joint’s tensile strength and the indentation at the weld surface, respectively, are the response quality attributes that need optimization. Three control parameters—second pulse current, cooling time, and second pulse weld time—are used for the study. Experiments are conducted based on L9 orthogonal array design. In addition, a linear surface area model response has been established in order to create a relationship between the results of the indentation and tensile strength tests and the parameters that affect the process. The findings indicate that the magnitude of the second pulse current is the most important component that influences tensile strength and indentation in dual pulse resistance spot welding. This was discovered via the analysis of the measurements.
