<p>One of the most common methods for preventing water seepage through the highly permeable foundation of earth-fill dams is the construction of a cutoff wall between the dam body and the underlying aquiclude. However, this approach introduces adverse effects, including uneven seepage load distribution along the dam height and the formation of a critical zone at the interface between the cutoff wall and the aquiclude. To mitigate these issues, the incorporation of impermeable diaphragms on the cutoff faces was proposed. This study examines various sealing configurations for cutoff walls and presents both numerical and analytical solutions for seepage rates and gradients. Analytical expressions for estimating seepage rates in earth-fill dams with such cutoff structures are derived and validated against experimental electrical-analogy data and the numerical solutions of the seepage problem.</p>
