Features in the Operation of Starting Elements of Remote Protection and Directional Residual Overcurrent Protection of Power Lines with Saturated Current Transformers

The effect of the saturation of a current transformer (CT) on the operation of the starting elements of high-speed backup relay protection is examined. A method for selective detection of an external fault evolving into an internal fault with CT saturation is proposed. The method is applicable to both main and backup protections.
