Fisher’s Well-being and Resilience Assessment in Relation to River Siltation in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, Philippines
摘要
We assess the well-being of fishers in the Mapagba River, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, selected through purposive sampling (n = 55). Fishers were predominantly male (85%) and had extensive fishing experience (16–30 years). They face challenges such as river siltation, coral reef degradation, and declining fish populations, which have led to economic insecurity and distress. Despite owning registered boats (n = 55) and fishing twice daily, five times a week, fishers remain economically strained and have limited alternative employment opportunities. While the community shows resilience in passing down fishing skills, well-being remains insecure. To mitigate the impacts of ecological degradation, collaboration among government agencies, local authorities, and the community is needed to secure alternative livelihoods and improve infrastructure.
