<p>We studied how vulnerable coastal fishing communities are to climate change using a combined approach that includes environmental and socio-economic factors. A multi-stage sampling method was used to select 200 respondents for the study. Climate data, including monthly precipitation and minimum and maximum temperatures from 1981 to 2021, were obtained from the NASA website to analyze climate patterns and sudden changes in specific coastal areas of Lagos State, Nigeria. Vulnerability indices measured how susceptible artisanal fishers are to climate change, while Mann-Kendall and Pettitt tests were used to analyze trends and abrupt changes in key climate parameters in Lagos State. The Mann-Kendall test results showed significant increases in temperature (α = 0.05, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.01) and precipitation (α = 0.05, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.05) in the study area. Pettitt test results indicated sudden changes in air temperature from 26.07&#xa0;°C (in 1997) to 26.39&#xa0;°C (in 1998), and in precipitation from 106.821&#xa0;mm (in 2006) to 131.859&#xa0;mm (in 2007). The vulnerability score was moderate at 0.54. The study concluded that local fisherfolk are experiencing rising rainfall and temperature patterns, with limited ability to adapt to current and future climate changes. It recommends strengthening capacity-building efforts to help reduce the impacts of climate change on artisanal fishing and lower fishers’ vulnerability.</p>
