<p>The COVID-19 pandemic forced selective pressure on local medical systems, prompting human groups to explore alternative treatments, including traditional medicine. Natural remedies are vital for Amazonian rural populations due to barriers in accessing healthcare services. We conducted an ethnobiological study to examine how herbal medicinal resources are selected for combating COVID-19 and how knowledge of their use is acquired. The goal was to understand how the traditional medical system in Salvaterra adapts to the presence of COVID-19. Preferences for using plants from managed environments and leaves in herbal remedies support the idea that the environment influences people’s behavior regarding the use of natural resources. Our data indicate that familiarity and age are the most significant factors affecting biocultural traits within the studied local medical systems.</p>
