摘要

Combining various aspects of sustainable development has been a common focus in many sustainability studies, including those on sustainability behaviors. A wealth of literature demonstrates and explains how beliefs and norms influence sustainable actions. However, little to no research exists comparing the impact of beliefs and norms on different sustainability behaviors, such as green consumption versus energy conservation. Using the Norm Activation Model, we investigated the interaction between environmental sustainability beliefs and norms, and their influence on green consumption and energy conservation behaviors among 296 pre-service teachers at a state university in the Eastern Visayas Region of the Philippines. Data collected through a Google survey with a Likert scale adapted from existing research were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling with SmartPLS 4. The findings revealed significant direct effects of awareness of consequences and ascription of responsibility on personal and social norms, as well as on energy conservation. Additionally, personal and social norms influenced green consumption, ascription of responsibility impacted green consumption, and personal norms affected energy conservation. Our study highlights the varying effects of environmental sustainability beliefs and norms on green consumption and energy conservation, underscoring the need for tailored interventions to promote and strengthen specific sustainability behaviors across different populations.
