<p>We examined the well-being of the Akit fishermen from Rupat Island, Riau, Indonesia, who face poverty due to their reliance on tauke, individuals who provide capital loans and monopolize the purchase of fish at low prices. We collected data from 168 fishermen to explore the role of trust in mediation and the effects of fisheries modernization and fishermen’s education on the fish supply chain. We used a closed questionnaire to collect data and employed structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze the findings. Our results suggest that modernization, trust, and governmental support significantly impact the fish supply chain, whereas education does not play a significant role. However, education is essential for gaining governmental support.</p>
