Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: a systemic condition of comorbidities
摘要
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a complex systemic medical condition that is often driven by comorbidities. Notably, HFpEF patients have an average of 5.5 comorbidities, and this drives a myriad of complex processes, including inflammation, fibrosis, loss of atrial contractility and deranged volume and sodium handling that together lead to abnormal cardiac function and the signs and symptoms of HFpEF. Here, we review the prevalence and implications of common HFpEF comorbidities, and review evidence supporting their treatment in the management of HFpEF.
