<p>In rural India, even after seven decades of independence, most Dalit women are still excluded from collegiate education. This issue needs to be debated to identify the causes and consequences of empowering Dalit women. The article examines the issues and challenges affecting Dalit women who drop out of collegiate education in rural Telangana, India. Based on primary data, the study highlights that higher dropout rates among Dalit women at the collegiate level result from the state’s failure to expand public educational institutions and raise academic standards. The government prioritizes economic growth over the expansion of public educational institutions in rural areas, making it difficult for Dalit women to pursue higher education.&#xa0;</p>
