<p>The effect of gibberellin (GA<sub>3</sub>) on seed germination and seedling development of melon were studied under salt stress. Experiments were conducted with 0, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mM NaCl concentrations stress, and 50 and 100&#xa0;mg/L of GA<sub>3</sub> seed dressing or soaking treatments. The double-layer filter paper culture method was used to analyze the germination and seedling growth indicators of ‘Emerald’ melon seeds under salt stress. Results showed that the germination rate of ‘Emerald’ melon seeds decreased with increasing NaCl concentration, and the relative injury rate increased (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). The length of cotyledons, hypocotyls, roots, and seedlings was inhibited (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). At 200 mM NaCl concentrations, GA<sub>3</sub> seed dressing or soaking significantly increased the germination rate of ‘Emerald’ melon seeds (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05), while at 250 mM NaCl concentrations, only GA<sub>3</sub> seed dressing had an effect (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05). Under NaCl stress, both the germination and seedling growth of ‘Emerald’ melon were inhibited, with the inhibition becoming more pronounced as NaCl concentration increased. GA<sub>3</sub> seed dressing or soaking treatments could alleviate the inhibition of seed germination and seedling growth under high salt stress to varying degrees under suitable conditions. High concentrations of NaCl combined with GA<sub>3</sub> treatment may produce a synergistic effect, jointly inhibiting the germination and seedling growth of ‘Emerald’ melon seeds.</p>
