<p>Brassinosteroids are used to regulate plant growth and development in different crops including cotton. Therefore, the present study was designed to compare six brassinosteroid treatments plus a control treatment (CK, distilled water only) in field-grown Xinjiang cotton across two growing seasons (2022 and 2023). The treatments were applied as a foliar application with the following codes (T1-T6). The highest yield promoting effect was attained by using a mixture of 0.01% 28-Homobrassinosteroid @ 150 mL·hm− 2 and 0.003% propionyl brassinosteroid @ 225 mL·hm− 2 in T6 treatment Seed cotton yield was increased by 11.6% in 2022 and by 17.7% in 2023 as compared to the control. This increment in yield was mainly due to higher boll density and greater boll weight. Besides this, the application of this brassinosteroids treatment combination (T6) significantly improved the temporal and spatial distribution of cotton bolls. Apart from this, the results of correlation analysis further confirmed the significant effect of this treatment (T6) in improving the boll quality and yield. Overall, considering the cotton yield and the cost of brassinosteroids, it is recommended to use a mixture of 0.01% 28-Homobrassinosteroid 150 mL·hm− 2 and 0.003% propionyl brassinosteroid 225 mL·hm− 2 for higher number of cotton bolls and yield in cotton growing regions of Xinjiang province of China and other regions of similar ecological conditions.</p>

摘要

Brassinosteroids are used to regulate plant growth and development in different crops including cotton. Previous studies have reported their influence as a single application thus, to the best of our knowledge, limited or no information is available in the literature for the combined application or mixtures in cotton. Overall, considering the cotton yield and the cost of brassinosteroids, it is recommended to use a mixture of 0.01% 28-Homobrassinosteroid 150 mL·hm− 2 and 0.003% propionyl brassinosteroid 225 mL·hm− 2 for higher number of cotton bolls and yield in cotton growing regions of Xinjiang province of China and other regions of similar ecological conditions.
