CONSTANS regulates seed size in a photoperiod-dependent manner

  • Vijay Kumar

摘要

Seed size is an important factor influencing evolutionary fitness and grain yield of plants. Plants sense photoperiod which enables them to manage their optimum physiological and developmental growth. Recent research highlighted how photoperiod positively influences seed size via CONSTANS. The CONSTANS-APETALA2 modulated a photoperiod-mediated response to optimize the reproductive growth in plants. Much less research has been conducted on other components of this module. Therefore, by focusing on additional seed attributes viz. seed dormancy, weight, tolerance, desiccation, to elucidate their related pathways may be an important direction to explore for future research.
