<p>Enset is a resilient, multi-purpose staple crop that supports over 20 million people in south, central, southwest, some Oromia, and whole Sidama region, Ethiopia. As a result of its longstanding importance, it has been actively managed, conserved, and maintained in farmers’ fields over generations. To assess the current status of enset diversity and conservation in the Sidama region, 11 previously identified sites were revisited to conduct a comparative study using similar methodologies. To accomplish this, two types of datasets were employed: secondary data derived from a 1999 study focused on enset landraces and current data collected from the selected sites, involving 275 informants through observations, interviews, and focus group discussions. The data obtained were analyzed using R, Minitab v22, and PASTv4.1.7. The distribution pattern, relative abundance, landraces richness, and compositional similarity were analyzed using standard biodiversity indices. The results indicated that 47 of the 79 landraces practically documented in 1999 remained across all sites after 25&#xa0;years. Many types of landraces were threatened and reduced in on-farm, with 8 out of 11 sites showing that their conservation status is at risk. Despite its decrease in landrace types, the existing landraces diversity showed a strongly correlated with earlier data (r = 0.747, p = 0.05), indicating that these landraces remain widely distributed and abundant across the sites. The respondents determined that fragmentation and declines in farmland were the biggest causes of landraces loss. Due to these losses, ensete will require due attention from farmers, governments, biologists, and other stakeholders in coming years, with a focus on in-situ conservation.</p>
