<p>Mung bean (<i>Vigna Radiata</i>, L) is a major legume as a food source that is widely cultivated by the people of the Tanimbar Islands Regency. Local cultivars have existed and have been cultivated for generations by farmers, as well as belonging to the community and controlled by the state. Enrichment of genetic resources through exploration of collections and introductions needs to be done so that there is no degradation of local genetic resources and bioperacy. In -situ exploration and characterization was carried out in South Tanimbar District, Kormomolin District, Nirunmas District and Wertamrian District, Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku Province in May 2019 followed by ex- situ observations in April–June 2020 in the Maluku AIAT collection garden. The purpose of the study was to determine the qualitative and quantitative morphological characters of each local mung bean accession. The results of the exploration and characterization of Tanimbar local mung beans obtained 5 accessions of mung beans, namely: mung beans with black skin, fuzzy green beans with brown skin, light yellow mung beans, shiny green beans with small seeds and fuzzy red mung beans.</p>
