摘要

Previous studies on desertification at a global scale were found while a scoping review and quantitative assessment of research efforts at the Moroccan scale has been lacking. This article reviewed desertification in Morocco by providing an analysis of 42 years of research to assess and fight against the phenomenon. The study uses a bibliometric analysis using the key term “Desertification in Morocco”. A total number of 426 publications was generated and analyzed. Specialized software was used to reflect the structure and diffusion of research in the field. The outputs showed that climate change (CC), land degradation, remote sensing (RS), land use are the primary hotspots while Medalus, satellite, geographic information systems (GIS), Landsat, spatiotemporal analysis, machine learning, and agricultural robots are the trending topics in the field. At the end, a conceptual model that includes the main components and variables of the phenomenon was conceived. The findings highlighted a growing evolution of published documents in the studied period. The present study gives particular data regarding the main factors, indicators, methods, techniques and effects of desertification in Morocco. The proposed framework may be used in governmental planning to support adaptation and mitigation strategies.
