<p>The significance of parks, gardens, and recreational spaces is heightened in light of the continuing COVID-19 epidemic. They offer a place for individuals to participate in safe outdoor activities and meet their desire for social connection, while also enhancing public health. A significant aspect of China’s rich cultural heritage is its diverse national parks, gardens, and reserves. There is a scarcity of literature addressing Chinese landscape architecture and sustainability practices, particularly in their historical context, despite the extensive literature on sustainability in landscape architecture. A qualitative analysis of several Chinese parks reveals that both modern and traditional landscape architects in China adhere to the six sustainability criteria in landscape architecture: environmental, economic, equitable, aesthetic, experiential, and ethical.The techniques and results of this study can be applied by researchers in many other countries and regions to explore potential sustainable landscape design solutions.</p>
