<p>Socio-economic factors are fundamental to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as they directly and indirectly influence various targets. These factors contribute to inequalities both within and between regions, often leaving marginalized groups disproportionately affected. In this context, the present study examines the spatial inequalities in social and economic indicators across the districts of Jharkhand. It highlights inter-district variations in the level of socio-economic development by constructing a Socio-Economic Development Index (SEDI). The index was developed using fifteen indicators representing both social and economic dimensions taken from government sources. The Entropy Weighting Method (EWM) was applied to determine the relative importance of each variable contributing to socio-economic development in the state. The findings reveal that the composite SEDI scores range from 0.045 to 0.948, with Bokaro district ranking first and Latehar district ranking last in terms of overall development. According to the EWM results, the literacy rate of Scheduled Tribes (weight: 0.0724), livestock per thousand people (weight: 0.0715), and food grain yield (weight: 0.0690) emerged as the most influential indicators of socio-economic development. The study concludes that significant inter-district disparities exist in socio-economic development across Jharkhand. Addressing these disparities will require targeted policy interventions, focusing on the key variables identified in the analysis.</p>
