Coupling relationship between government support policies and regional economic development from a geographic spatial perspective

Given the rapid economic development, this paper builds a coupling degree model to explore the coupling relationship between government support policies and regional economic development. An empirical analysis is conducted from the perspective of geographic spatial differences across cities and counties in Hunan Province. The results show that government support policies have a significant positive impact on economic development in Hunan. The coefficient of the comprehensive indicator for government support policies reaches 0.536 and is significant at the 1% level, effectively confirming the promoting effect of government support on regional economic development. The heterogeneity analysis shows that the effects of support policies vary across different regions in Hunan. Among them, the coupling relationship is strongest in the surrounding area of the Chang-Zhu-Tan urban agglomeration, with a coefficient of 0.502, which is higher than that of the southern Hunan region (0.487) and the western Hunan region (0.492). Moreover, industrial structure and investment in technological innovation are important variables affecting the coupling relationship, with coefficients of 0.507 and 0.415 respectively, both showing significant correlations with economic development. Finally, a robustness analysis verifies the reliability of the regression results, making an important contribution to subsequent studies of the coupling relationship between government support policies and regional economic development across Chinese provinces.
