Public art and urban identity: enhancing cultural landscapes
摘要
This study investigates the role of public art in shaping urban identities by looking at its placement within cultural landscapes. By integrating material, immaterial, and relational elements of cityscapes into a cultural landscape (CL) matrix framework, this research aims to assess and preserve local identity. Using Lijiang City as an example, this method uses the CL matrix to examine how public art might enhance cultural continuity and the symbolic significance of the urban environment. According to the study, public art enhances a place's visual identity and cultural narrative by connecting its past and present. The study highlights the need to incorporate creative ideas into urban planning projects to encourage civic engagement and a feeling of belonging to one's community. To better integrate cultural values into the ever-changing fabric of cityscapes, planners, designers, and legislators may seek to use the repeatable framework offered by this study.
