<p>Urban green spaces (UGS) worldwide face increasing degradation due to population growth and urbanization, leading to significant social and environmental challenges. This study investigates residents' perceptions of the socio-environmental effects (SEE) associated with UGS depletion, focusing on Gweru City as a case study. Employing exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), the research ensures methodological rigor, supported by initial data adequacy measures such as the Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin statistic and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity. The findings reveal four principal factors: Ecosystem Degradation, Aesthetic and Recreational Degradation, Climate Change, and Environmental Health Degradation. CFA confirmed the structural integrity of these factors, with robust path coefficients meeting criteria for convergent validity and upholding discriminant validity assumptions. Reliability analysis demonstrated strong internal consistency among the constructs. The residents' perceptions of SEE highlight the urgent need for integrated urban planning and policy interventions to mitigate the adverse impacts of UGS depletion, emphasizing sustainable strategies to protect environmental integrity and community well-being. This study significantly contributes to urban development knowledge by providing a comprehensive understanding of the socio-environmental implications of UGS decline and suggests future research directions to explore additional dimensions of UGS impacts and evaluate interventions aimed at enhancing sustainable urban growth and resilience.</p>
