<p>In this part of the research, we focused on Suzhou, a region celebrated for its historic charm and how it blends tradition with the pressures of modern urban life. We set out to explore how sustainable landscape practices are being adopted within several of its characteristic towns, all known for their deep cultural roots. Our approach combined satellite-based geospatial analysis with on-the-ground fieldwork, including community surveys and face-to-face interviews. We concentrated on five towns: Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Luzhi, Mudu, and Jinxi, each offering a slightly different take on heritage preservation and environmental stewardship. One of the most striking patterns that emerged was how traditional landscape features such as stone bridges, canal systems, and native gardens can be revitalized using modern sustainability tools. This mix of old and new proved effective in supporting environmental health and cultural identity. For instance, towns that invested in restoring historic water channels and integrating wetland-based filtration systems showed the clearest improvements in water quality. Similarly, those that had embraced green infrastructure like permeable pavements, green roofs, and tree-lined corridors tended to report better air quality and healthier vegetation. Interestingly, what residents valued most wasn’t just the technology or the tradition on their own, but the careful blending of both. Towns that struck this balance tended to have the highest satisfaction levels among locals, who felt their heritage was being respected without being frozen in time. From this, a broader framework begins to take shape, offering practical guidance for how historic towns can evolve sustainably, without losing what makes them unique.</p>
