<p>The increased attention to environmental and human welfare awareness, issues and policy calls for databases and indexes that explore the linkages at global, regional and national levels. While there is a rich and valuable interdisciplinary literature exploring these relationships, it is time to construct a database that provides a global perspective. We construct a geo-environmental well-being index based on six related environmental and human welfare features of capital cities and map those results at the international level. Our novel method uses the number of Google Scholar hyperlinks as a proxy for the quantity of information available regarding urban ecology, conservation, climate change, environmental maps, urban landscape, and environmental equity for the capital cities of 243 nations. The key finding is that our knowledge base is very uneven, with most research about European, North American and a handful of Asian capitals. There is very little knowledge about environmental and welfare conditions in Global South regions and capitals. The raw data and maps lay the groundwork for additional research about human/environmental relationships in Latin America, Africa and much of Asia and the Pacific.</p>
