Explore the combination of education for sustainable development and ecotourism in the Penghu Islands, Taiwan

摘要

The United Nations has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SDG 4 is “Quality Education”, respectively, which are essential pillars for enhancing world development. This underscores the urgent need to confront, address the global warming crisis by raising environmental perceptions, educating people about their responsibility to protect ecosystems, the planet. The main objective of this research, which was to focus on ecotourism, investigate where the problem lies, has been successfully achieved. The author collected 910 questionnaires through online surveys, in-person interviews, ensuring a diverse range of participants who were knowledgeable about the topic. The reliability, validity of the data structure were analyzed, the normal distribution analysis was tested using IBM SPSS 25. PROCESS v4.1 was used to determine the likelihood of a mediating variable affecting. All the hypotheses study the effects of ecotourism perception on tourism attraction, consumer behavioral intention. The effect of tourism attraction on consumer behavioral intention, the partial mediating role of tourism attraction in the relationship between environmental perception, consumer behavioral intention have been confirmed, providing significant insights into the interplay of these factors in the context of the Penghu Islands. These findings can be applied to develop the education for sustainable development by ecotourism practices in the Penghu Islands, thereby contributing to preserving its unique ecosystems.
