Space, places and Iqbal’s imageability

Iqbal is a poet who has garnered significant attention in the field of Urdu criticism and research. His philosophical ideas have received extensive scholarly attention, and he is often considered the originator of the concept of Pakistan. There is a prevailing belief that Iqbal's poetry exhibits greater imagination and is more closely aligned with Arab culture rather than the native culture of India. My essay aims to analyze Iqbal's mental geography through the application of geographical critique techniques. My objective was to comprehend the manner in which he establishes connections between various locations in his poems. Based on my research, I have found that Iqbal's poetic progression is characterized by a shift from depiction to abstraction. The early poetry of the author is characterized by an abundance of vivid descriptions of locations, analogies, and tangible elements from nature. As he continues on his lyrical journey, he gets more and more drawn to abstraction. I have seen that the locations where Iqbal dedicated the majority of his time may not necessarily hold the greatest impact on his mental landscape. He constantly experienced the burden of British colonialism throughout his lifetime and regularly utilized various locations in his lyrical geography as a means of seeking solace from it.
