摘要

This paper presents a failure susceptibility analysis procedure correlating the Global Slope Performance Index with the slope classification system, GAMAH-R, and taking acceptance criteria into account for 25 slopes from 3 open pit iron ore mines, located at the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, Brazil. It also presents adjustments to the failure susceptibility matrix, used to determine the type of approach to be considered in stability analysis, and failure susceptibility maps for open pit mining. Appling the procedure, Mine A shows small instability processes associated with rockfalls and bench failures; Mine B exhibits instabilities and large erosion features; and Mine C has some failures, both on benches and inter-ramps scales. The failure susceptibility matrix obtained for the studied slopes ranged from medium–low to a high failure susceptibility. The slopes with medium–high to high failure susceptibility were selected for stability analysis, with a probabilistic approach using limit equilibrium method. Only Mine B did not reach the acceptance criteria, with its mine works supported by the current monitoring system. The failure susceptibility analysis matrix indicates that good correlations between the systems are due to ancient open pit mines with final pit slopes, while the low correlations are mainly due to the lack of maintenance as well as geological-geotechnical issues. The proposed method has been proving to be adequate for slope stability analysis and for the identification of requiring stabilization and/or monitoring slopes, and it also appears to be a good susceptibility assessment tool for mining rock slopes.
