<p>In a recent paper [Carcassi, Oldofredi and Aidala, Found Phys 54, 14 (2024)] it is claimed that the whole Harrigan–Spekkens framework of ontological models is inconsistent with quantum theory. They show this by showing that all pure quantum states in <InlineEquation ID="IEq3"> <InlineMediaObject> <ImageObject Color="BlackWhite" FileRef="10701_2025_836_Article_IEq3.gif" Format="GIF" Height="17" Rendition="HTML" Resolution="72" Type="Linedraw" Width="17" /> </InlineMediaObject> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\psi \)</EquationSource> <EquationSource Format="MATHML"><math> <mi>ψ</mi> </math></EquationSource> </InlineEquation>-ontic models must be orthogonal. In this note, we identify some crucial assumptions that lack physical motivation in their argument to the extent that the main claim is incorrect.</p>

摘要

In a recent paper [Carcassi, Oldofredi and Aidala, Found Phys 54, 14 (2024)] it is claimed that the whole Harrigan–Spekkens framework of ontological models is inconsistent with quantum theory. They show this by showing that all pure quantum states in \(\psi \) ψ -ontic models must be orthogonal. In this note, we identify some crucial assumptions that lack physical motivation in their argument to the extent that the main claim is incorrect.
