Use of Organosilicon Modifiers to Treat Nonwoven Absorbing Material

Purification of wastewater containing synthetic dyes using a sorbent based on nonwoven absorbing materials containing the organosilicon modifiers vinyltriethoxysilane and ethylhydrosiloxane was examined. The nonwoven absorbing material was treated with the organosilicon preparations before carding, after which it was heat treated. The optimal conditions for dye absorption were found and the sorption capacity and effectiveness of water purification from dyes by the studied nonwoven materials were determined during the experiments. The results indicated that the nonwoven absorbing material could not be held on a water surface, i.e., did not collect synthetic dyes from the water surface (wetting ≤ g/g; water permeability, ≥240 min).
