<p>A systematic literature review was conducted to analyse academic publication writing group programmes designed for researchers. Databases were searched for published articles that had been independently assessed for methodological quality by three researchers. A total of 43 articles met the inclusion criteria and are summarized in this paper. An in-depth review of methodological approaches, group characteristics, as well as their results and conclusions was conducted. Despite a clear demand for this type of programme and the universities that have implemented them reporting different types of benefits, several methodological concerns should be considered.</p>
