New perspectives on the nexus between educational progress and green economic development based on EKC theory
摘要
This paper reveals the nonlinear nexus between educational progress (EP) and green economic development (GED) based on the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) theory. The main findings are as follows: (1) the nexus between EP and GED exhibits a U-shaped pattern, with the turning point at 8.174 (the mean years of schooling), and 12% (the ratio of higher education population); (2) GED can be affected by EP through innovation progress effect, economic structure effect, and social influence effect; (3) the nonlinear nexus between EP and GED can be moderated by urban green spaces (UGS); (4) The positive effect of EP on GED is stronger in regions with well-developed education systems. The study provides policy implications for governments, including enhancing support for education and innovation, tailoring policies to regional needs, and promoting sustainable practices to boost the role of education in the green economy.
