Spatial-temporal evolution of ecological-economic-disaster synergies and their dynamic response to land use efficiency: evidence from China

The global imperative for sustainable development necessitates a unified strategy involving economic advancement, ecological conservation, and disaster preparedness to drive high-quality development, particularly in nations experiencing rapid growth, like China.The existing literature has not extensively explored the dynamic interactions of the Economy-Ecology-Disaster (EED) triad, particularly the influence of Land Use Efficiency (LUE) on this complex web.The research constructs an extensive analytical framework, employing panel data spanning 31 Chinese provincial-level regions from 2010 to 2022.The analytical approach of this research incorporates entropy weighting and composite index techniques for trend analysis within the EED system, employs the Coupling Coordination Degree Model (CCDM) for synergistic interaction assessment, utilizes the Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model along with standard deviation ellipse analysis to examine the spatiotemporal pattern of LUE impact, and forecasts future trends using the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model.Research indicates that the EED system follows a three-phase trajectory of “swift escalation–equilibrium–incremental growth,” marked by clear regional variations.The study provides empirical backing for the realization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 11 and 13, and contributes practical policy suggestions for policy development in developing nations.The study provides empirical backing for the accomplishment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 11 and 13, and contributes practical policy suggestions for policy development in developing nations.
