A study of the non-linear effect of technological distance on firms’ green technology innovation- based on a threshold panel model

In order to promote in-depth cooperation among firms with different degrees of technological distance (GD) and generate positive green technology innovation (GTI) effect. This study selects listed companies on the Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share markets from 2010 to 2020 as its research sample. Based on baseline regression and threshold panel models, an empirical analysis of the non-linear relationship between GD and GTI is conducted. It concludes that it is found that the non-linear effect of technological distance on firms’ GTI has a single threshold effect, with a lower threshold value for strategic green technology innovation (STC) compared to substantive green technology innovation (STU). In the non-linear relationship, firms’ absorptive capacity (AC) is one of the action paths, and executive education, public environmental concern and analyst attention have positive moderating effect. By analyzing the heterogeneity of firms’ ownership and the technology intensity, this paper provides some theoretical guidance for firms with different levels of technology to develop green technology cooperation.
