Speed and sustainability: the impact of digital transformation speed on firms’ low-carbon performance
摘要
This study examines the impact of digital transformation speed on firms’ low-carbon performance and analyses the moderating role of government resources. Based on the empirical data of Chinese listed companies, we find that digital transformation speed has significantly promoted firms’ low-carbon performance. Furthermore, we find that the government can strengthen the positive impact of digital transformation speed on low-carbon performance by increasing green subsidies, but the government-firm relationship has a negative moderating effect on the role of government green subsidies. Heterogeneity results show that digital transformation speed has a more significant effect on low-carbon performance in areas with low environmental regulations, as well as in heavily polluting industries and non-state-owned firms. Our results have important implication for the government and firms to promote digital transformation and low-carbon development.
