<p>The era of ecological civilization in China has initiated the use of ecological civilization pilot setting, environmental system reforms to promote green industrial development. Using panel data from 2003 to 2019 for 30 Chinese provinces, we develop an improved entropy weight-TOPSIS method to construct an industrial green development index, and use the generalized synthetic control method to analyze the policy effect of the establishment of ecological civilization pilots on the index and then apply the mediating effect model to test the influence of provincial ecological civilization pilot policies driving regional industries’ green development. Results show that the level of industrial green development in Fujian, Jiangxi and Guizhou provinces have improved after the pilot implementation by increasing the quality of ecological environment, promoting the development of science and technology and upgrading the industrial structure. Results indicate that the government should promote differentiated local industrial policies, boost R&amp;D investment, advance industrial restructuring, innovate environmental governance, and optimize energy structure.</p>

Provincial ecological civilization pilot setting and regional industrial green development: evidence from China

The era of ecological civilization in China has initiated the use of ecological civilization pilot setting, environmental system reforms to promote green industrial development.
