Assessing the impact of industrial collaborative agglomeration between producer services and manufacturing on water pollution: A multidimensional analysis from China

This study investigates the impact of industrial collaborative agglomeration (ICA) on water pollution using data from prefecture-level cities in China. The findings reveal that, overall, ICA exacerbates water pollution. However, when environmental protection responsibilities are specific and environmental supervision is strict, ICA suppresses water pollution. Furthermore, the influence of ICA on water pollution exhibits regional heterogeneity. Notably, it yields contrasting outcomes in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Pearl River Delta urban agglomerations, while its impact remains insignificant in the Yangtze River Delta and Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomerations. In the early stages of industrial development, the mediating role of green technological innovation in the relationship between ICA and the reduction of water pollution emissions does not exist. Additionally, marketization exerts a significant moderating effect on the relationship between ICA and water pollution.
