China’s digital low-carbon path: Research on the impact of the digital economy on the low-carbon transformation energy structure
摘要
The booming development of the digital economy (DE) offers a fresh avenue for low-carbon transition of energy structure (LTES). The study empirically analyzes the influence of the DE on LTES using panel data from 30 Chinese provinces spanning from 2011 to 2023. The conclusions are as follows. Firstly, the DE significantly promotes LTES, and the conclusion holds after instrumental variables and robustness tests. Secondly, technical innovation and industrial structure upgrades are essential transmission mechanisms. Thirdly, the economic growth goal plays a negative moderating role in the DE for LTES, while the environmental governance goal has a positive moderating role. Fourthly, the DE has a noticeable effect on LTES in eastern, central and non-resource-based regions of China. The digital infrastructure in the digital economic structure significantly positively affects LTES. This study offers an innovative perspective for promoting LTES and mitigating climate change and provides a valuable reference for policymakers.
