<p>The acceleration of digital technology (DT) development is an important strategic choice to improve green technology innovation efficiency (GTIE), while the innovation resource misallocation (IRM) is hindering GTIE. This study utilized a panel data on 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2023, and a two-way fixed effects model, threshold effects model, spatial econometric model, and mediating effects model have been adopted to investigate the impact of DT on GTIE and the mediating effect of IRM. The results are as follows: (1) DT can significantly improve GTIE, and this finding still valid after conducting endogeneity and robustness tests. (2) In terms of regional heterogeneity, the role of DT in improving GTIE is as follows: eastern region &gt; central region &gt; western region. (3) The impact of DT on GTIE exhibits a threshold effect. As DT gradually crosses the threshold, its improving effect gradually increases. (4) Not only does DT promote GTIE in a province but also has a positive spatial spillover effect on GTIE in adjacent provinces. (5) DT can enhance GTIE via its negative impact on IRM. These findings not only enrich the literature on DT and GTIE but also serve as a reference for governmental departments as they optimize their strategy for developing DT and achieving green economic development.</p>

Digital technology, innovation resource misallocation, and green technology innovation efficiency: evidence from China
