摘要

Water scarcity significantly impacts Sustainable Development Goals, especially in rapidly expanding economic regions. The Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) is characterized by inefficient use of water, and a lack of careful analysis in earlier research regarding the harmony of production, living, and ecological spaces (PLEs). From the standpoint of PLEs, we use the EBM model to measure the spatiotemporal structure and evolutionary features related to water resource use efficiency (WUE) in 11 municipalities and provinces in the YREB between 2002 and 2021. Additionally, we examine the coordination and coupling connection of water resource usage (WU) in the PLEs using the coupling coordination degree model (CCDM). The findings indicate that: (1) YREB's overall WUE score increased from 0.46 to 0.79, or 71.7%, indicating an upward trend; (2) There is a notable variation in the WUE of various PLEs, with the WUE of living spaces trailing behind that of other spaces; (3) An uneven spatial distribution that mostly moves in the direction of a "high coupling-high coordination" tendency, with some regions having a moderate degree of coupling and coordination and an east-west pattern of high and low. Furthermore, technological progress was identified as a key driver for improving WUE. These findings and insights offer invaluable decision-making support and guidance for water resource planning, enhance eco-friendly livability urban development and large-scale infrastructure projects within the YREB.
