<p>The adoption of green agricultural production behavior (GPB) by farmers is essential to meeting the requirements of agricultural sustainable development. This study employs the Oprobit model, mediating effect model, and moderating effect model to conduct a series of empirical tests based on the survey data from the 2020 China Rural Revitalization Survey (CRRS) to comprehensively determine the effect of digital technology application (DTA) on farmers’ GPB. Additionally, the mediating effect of food environmental safety awareness and the moderating effect of planting subsidies are emphasized. The findings demonstrate that DTA has significant positive effects on farmers’ GPB, but the effect size varies with DTA levels. Food and environmental safety awareness have positive mediation effects on the impact of DTA on farmers’ GPB, and planting subsidies positively moderate the effect of DTA on farmers’ GPB. Furthermore, the study found that DTA has a more pronounced positive impact on the GPB of farmers who transferred to land, have lower land fragmentation, planting cash crops, and in southern regions. The study findings should provide insight into how best to conduct future investigations and formulate policies that would advance the green transformation of agriculture and stimulate rural revitalization.</p>
