Energy budgeting and economic analysis of coriander crop production in central India

The experiment was carried out in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh during the Rabi season of 2022–2023 to evaluate the energetics and economics of coriander. The research objective of work is to screen the best sowing and cutting combination for forage and seed yield along with optimum energy budgeting, economic gain of coriander crop under field condition. The experiment was conducted on randomized block design with 20 treatments on the basis 5 sowing date and 4 cuttings at field level replicated thrice. Results revealed the highest herbage yield (6.64q) and income from leaves (₹83,000) was recorded from T11 (T3st2) while, the highest seed yield (21.02q) and income from seeds (₹168,160) in T9 (T3st0). The highest cost was incurred in T5st2 (₹73,494.3), gross return in T11 (₹217,640.0), net return and benefit cost ratio in T14 (T4st1) (₹145,816, 2.05, respectively). With regard to the energy budgeting, the energy estimates were calculated from actual unit of inputs, outputs and corresponding conversion factors. The total input energy used in production of coriander was 13,443.3 MJha−1 was recorded in T16 (T4st3) however, the total produce (2383.0 kg), energy use efficiency (17.9 KgMJ−1) and energy productivity (0.18 kg MJ−1) were recorded in T4st1, energy output (9646.4 MJha−1) in T11 and energy output-input ratio in T3 (T1st2), T11 (T3st2) and T12 (T3st3) (0.73 MJ−1 respectively).
