Eco-intelligent production: intelligent manufacturing and industrial green transition

Intelligent manufacturing drives the transition of traditional manufacturing toward a low-carbon model, improving efficiency while reducing pollution and thereby achieving a synergy between economic growth and environmental sustainability. This research establishes an evaluation index system designed to measure the degree of green transformation in the industry and investigates both the direct effects and underlying mechanisms by which intelligent manufacturing influences this transformation. The study demonstrates the following: (1) a significant U-shaped relationship exists between intelligent manufacturing and industrial green transition, particularly pronounced in eastern and non-resource-based regions; (2) intelligent manufacturing displays a U-shaped relationship with R&D expenditure, human capital quality, and patent output, which are the primary mechanisms facilitating industrial green transformation; and (3) industrial policy plays a supportive moderating role in enhancing the effectiveness of intelligent manufacturing in driving industrial green transformation. As the intensity of industrial policy support increases, the mediating roles of human capital and patent output in the relationship between intelligent manufacturing and industrial green transformation are significantly strengthened, indicating a moderated mediation effect.
