Dynamic gaming strategies about fuel consumption reduction and mileage range between two heterogeneous automotive supply chains

Reducing fuel consumption in internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) producing more new energy vehicles (NEV) are the key issues for reducing automobile carbon emissions. Still, these two types of automakers’ behaviors in the marketplace have yet to be given more attention. Therefore, to fill this gap, this dissertation goes deeply into the optimal strategies for these two types of automakers regarding mileage range and fuel consumption reduction investment, as well as the green marketing strategies of the retailers they jointly face. Among them, the main drivers of the manufacturers’ investments are the government’s double-credit policy (DCP) and consumers’ preference for high mileage range and low fuel consumption. We first analyze centralized and decentralized decision-making. A comparative analysis then reveals a lower level of mileage range, fuel consumption reduction, green marketing capabilities, and total profitability in the latter scenario. Finally, it probes into the coordination among internal supply chain members by cost-sharing. It finds that a certain degree is needed to enhance all three investment levels while improving the profits of all parties. It provides the optimal low-carbon and profit maximization strategies for automotive supply chain enterprises.
