Assessing tiger habitat suitability and population dynamics in panna tiger reserve with MCDA techniques

The research presents a comprehensive study aimed at identifying suitable habitat sites and their population dynamics for tigers within the Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) using advanced spatial analysis techniques and habitat suitability modeling. Key components of the study include habitat mapping, vegetation analysis, prey availability assessment, and anthropogenic disturbance mapping, all of which contribute to the development of a habitat suitability index for tigers. The findings of this study have significant implications for tiger conservation efforts at the PTR and serve as a valuable tool for informing habitat management strategies, land-use planning decisions, and anti-poaching initiatives. The results from the analysis suggested that approximately 67.02% and 15.65% area of the tiger reserve offers very high and high suitability for tiger habitat, whereas, 17.13% and 0.2% area have moderate and low suitability, respectively. By identifying and prioritizing suitable habitat sites, conservation stakeholders can focus their resources and efforts on areas that are most critical for maintaining viable tiger populations and ensuring the long-term survival of this iconic species. The findings can assist forest managers and stakeholders in recommending effective conservation and restoration practices, as well as formulating strategies to ensure the self-sustenance of reintroduced tigers in the Reserve.
