Fintech’s role in addressing climate change: insights from the COP28 global stocktake

Many recommendations were highlighted during the COP28 as ways of mitigating global warming. In this respect, this research aims to examine the impact of Fintech on carbon emissions in West Africa. The data for the study ranges from 2000 to 2021. The study used Driscoll and Kraay’s Panel Corrected Standard Error estimation. Insights derived from the study point towards the fact that fintech significantly influences carbon emissions. The finding aligns well with the pollution haven hypothesis, given that globalization is seen to promote carbon emissions. In addition, urbanization deteriorates the quality of environmental conditions. However, economic and population growth does not affect carbon emissions. According to the results, it is recommended that firms and households are to be educated and motivated to use green technologies.
