Understanding the performance of Chinese high-tech industry and technological innovations on Africa CSR practices

Chinese high technology (high-tech) industry has made a significant investment in the African market in recent years. Particularly in sectors such as information and communication technology, digital technology, renewable energy, and infrastructure development. This study explored the impact of Chinese technological performance on corporate social responsibility practices in Africa. This study adopts a quantitative research design with 700 participants from Chinese firms in Africa. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires to develop hypotheses and test connections between the variables using qualitative analysis and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The findings revealed that Chinese high-tech and technological innovation had a positive effect on corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in Africa. CSR practices with stakeholder engagement and cultural difference mediate the relationship between Chinese technological innovation and corporate social responsibility. This study provides suggestions for Chinese high-tech companies to improve their CSR practices and provide pathway to contribute to sustainable development, social welfare, and economic development in Africa.
