Information sharing strategies and the optimization of supply chain management in multi-platform e-commerce markets

This study examines the impact of information sharing strategies on supply chain management within the context of multi-platform e-commerce markets. It explores the strategic choices and performance outcomes of supply chain members, including manufacturers, resellers, and two types of online platforms (manufacturer-focused and reseller-focused), under various information sharing scenarios. The research employs a theoretical model to analyse the equilibrium strategies and preferences of supply chain members regarding information sharing. Key findings reveal that information sharing significantly influences decision-making efficiency and supply chain responsiveness. However, selective information sharing can lead to complex strategic interactions and signal issues among supply chain members. The study identifies that the preferences for information sharing are contingent upon market demand volatility and competition intensity. It also uncovers that despite the potential benefits of information sharing, an equilibrium may be reached where no information is shared due to signalling costs and information asymmetry. The research provides insights for e-commerce platforms and supply chain managers on formulating effective information sharing strategies, emphasizing the importance of leveraging advanced technologies to enhance information accuracy and timeliness. The study concludes by highlighting the dynamic nature of information sharing in supply chain management and its implications for digital transformation within the e-commerce landscape.
